Should I drop ScratchBack? What have we learned?

Posted by Not John Chow | April 23, 2008 .

Are you in my Top Spots? Probably not. Don’t get me wrong, I do appreciate the donations I have received but, as I look at simplifying my theme and reducing the clutter, I think that “My Top Spots” is not adding much value.

Do you use ScratchBack? Has it worked for you? Should I keep it? What do you think?

Well, if they don’t earn, you might as well dump it.

I have also been thinking about dropping mine off my blog. At first I got quite a few donations and my spots filled up fast. But I haven’t had a new one for a couple months now.

And if you want my opinion, you definitely need to reduce some clutter in your sidebars. Way to many flashy banners and other graphics.

If it doesn’t work, drop it. If you only display things that bring you in more money, and leave out the small time ones, your ctr will be greater. Give the users a perfect balance. If you make $2 off a click for 2 of your ads, but like 10cents off your 19 others, then you want to drop most of your small dealers. I mainly use Adsense and Kontera, then private ad sales. I have all PPC except shopping ads in the header, and TTZMedia in the post page as an inline ad.

With my OIOPublisher plugin I am now selling ad space. Also you can sign up for my affiliate program and refer people to buy an ad. If you send someone to me using the referral link provided by becoming an affiliate, you make $5 for each sidebar ad. The sidebar ads cost $50 for 28 days, so you get 10%. If you don’t refer anyone, then you don’t lose anything. Hurry now, the ad space will go fast!

I have made a whopping 0 dollars with mine. But I’ve also ordered a custom toplist, which should be pretty cool…

You could always find another blog that charges the same amount for scratchback links and just do a trade…if anything you’ll get your dollar/five/whatever back, or if paypal gets a cut, you’ll get a recip link for pocket change!

I’m so freaking sleepy right now it’s just not funny…heh.

Sorry man but your blog is an absolute cluttered mess. Its like a teenagers room with stuff everywhere on the floor. You need to take a good hard look at what you are doing because it is obviously not working.

@Job Search Sites - Dude, who are you talking to? The lack of specificity makes me just want to bang my head on my keyboard…

I’m talking to the owner of notjohnchow. The blog I am on right now. Who else would I be talking to?

Hey, even I agree it is a little cluttered. I have plans to clean it up but, so far I do not have the time. I am hoping that things will calm down at work soon and then I will be able to address the site issues.
