I learned this recipe when I was in 9th grade. We had an exchange student stay with us from Brazil. His mother sent up his favorite dessert recipe so that my mom could make it for his birthday. I loved this dessert and learned to make it. At MSU we used to have apple pie parties and since we only had one pie plate we would make one right after another. The record was seven apple pies in all. I hope you like it as much as I do.
Ingredients:
Apples (4-5)
Eggs (4)
Flour (2 cups)
Sugar (1-2 cups)
Yeast
Cinnamon
butter or margarine (2 sticks)
Instructions:
1. Pre Heat the oven to 325F.
2. Grease a pie pan (with butter).
3. Peel and slice apples.
4. Arrange the apple slices in the bottom of the pan.
5. Lightly sprinkle cinnamon over the apples.
6. Combine flour, sugar, yeast and butter. (I use my hands and work the butter in cold)
7. Press the flour-sugar-yeast-butter mix evenly onto the apples.
8. Separate the eggs.
9. Whip the egg whites.
10. Fold in the egg yolks.
11. Spread the eggs on to the top of the pie.
12. Put the pie in the oven for approximately 35 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
Tastes best warm with whip cream on top or ice cream on the side.
Maybe it would be good with cold coffee too! Try this recipe as well!
