Favorable Favicons

FlaviconI was reading through some of the older posts on JohnChow.com when I found a post that  talked about favicons.  John suggested that “One way to make you blog stand out in the bookmarks is to make a custom icon.”  He then goes on to tell you how to create a favicon.ico file and how to get it implimented.  Actually, it is quite simple.  You need to copy your favicon file to the root directory of your blog overwriting the existing favicon.ico file.

Since I had never created a favicon.ico before, I thought I would look and see if I could find some software to help.  I found a website at download.com called Favicon Generator.   Favicon Generator will convert a graphic file into a favicon.ico file.  Just right click on the download button and choose “Save Target as ….”.  FTP the file to your root directory and  overwritthe existing file and you are done.  I created the original file in PowerPoint as a 1″ x 1″ file and save the result as a JPEG file.  Here is the result:
