Blog Income Report - April 2008

Posted by Not John Chow | May 2, 2008 .

Here it is the end of the month and I can’t help but thinking “I can do better than this!”

2008 April Blog Income ReportTwo business trips and new assignments at work seem to be my biggest excuse. It is definitely difficult to be a husband, a father, a worker, and an entrepreneur at the same time.

That being said, I earned $10.96 this month.

This month key revenues have come from Smorty and Adsense. Adsense is still only pretend money until I hit the magic $100 level.

Smorty $6.00

Adsense: $2.49

Project Wonderful: $1.81

Bidvertiser: $0.37

Widget Bucks: $0.29

For a grand total of: $10.96

Pageviews for April were 2,488 .

I know that I can do better than this if I spend a little more time on it. I continue to struggle with time conflicts that keep me from improving the blog and getting ahead in my posts. I have planned blog posts for May. Now I need to write the posts and then get on with some improvements.

I need to come up with some good content to keep my current readers (that’s you, thank you for being here) and my future readers coming back.

Does your blog make money? How do you do it? What works for you?

Zero and Up, which started late february, has brought in about $40 so far - averaging out to just under $20 per month which isn’t bad for the first two months. (many blogs go at $0.00 for the first 6 months)

    Congrats on your earnings :)

You are right about that. Of course, I haven’t really applied myself yet.

This blog however, is my experiment in blogging. I have a few other sites that should do well in the future.

I would click on your adsense ads if I actually saw them. Unfortunately you placed them so that they are not visible in the juicy ‘above the fold’ spot - i have to actually scroll down to see them cos they are hidden away in the mid right column. Er… thats a bad position. They are not exactly in my line of sight.

If you want your adsense to make money, stick them right in your blog post. Either just before the first word of the post, or right in the middle of the post. Should significantly increase your clickthrough rate. Trust me.

And by the way, it is now commonly agreed that the 336×250 adsense blocks have the highest click through rates. Read Joel Comm’s book. If you want to see an example of this, see http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2006/05/how-to-make-money-from-your-blog/
He makes over $1000 a day from his blog, so you could learn a few lessons from him.

I am in the process of redesigning my site including ad placement. I have Joel’s book and plan to read it and follow it as part of the clean up process. Thanks.
